Civilization Collapse and Resistance @ Millerton, NY

We live in the most destructive culture in history. At a time when CO2 emissions are threatening all life on earth, 90% of large fish in the ocean are gone, and over 100 species go extinct every day, the destruction wrought by human civilization is actually accelerating rather than decreasing, and that is absolutely insane. Public outcry, petitions, and even laws have proven themselves totally useless at stopping or even slowing this onslaught. Corporate greenwash is just as useless. In fact, it’s insidious, because it allows some to believe a solution will magically appear from above. But anyone who’s looked closely at the problem knows that this culture of maximum production and consumption for profit will never willingly change itself.

This planet is our home. It gives us life, and without it we are dead. Those of us who truly care about saving it need to come together, and start talking seriously about how to dismantle the systems that are killing the earth. In order to do so, we must also decolonize our own minds, remember our unity with the wild earth, and affirm our opposition to civilization.

We are 6 New York City-area activists who met at a conference called Deep Green Resistance, led by Derrick Jensen, Lierre Kieth, and Aric McBay. We were inspired by the message of DGR, and are hosting a weekend long conference in the Berkshires (June 19th to the 21st), in the hopes of carrying the message forward.
