(en) France, Coordination of Anarchist Groups (CGA) - IAL #95 - Left in power no hope for undocumented migrants (fr) [machine translation]

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 10:48
The Sarkozy-era Besson-Hortefeux was marked by an aggressive and uninhibited speech against the immigrants. At the level of undocumented persons, the legislature continued hardening leaving fewer opportunities for adjustments. The number of evictions have increased steadily to a record of 36,822 in 2012 renewed the borders (with seven months of the year under the terms of the new majority). If the figures are disputed because they are inflated (yes expel is an electoral argument!) It remains that the policies in place have contributed to stigmatizing invisibiliser increasingly precarious and people without papers, breaking the possibility of emergence of their struggles and maintain without-law, bondsmen to thank you on behalf of a large number of employers and economic sectors. ...

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 10:47

(en) Palestine-Israel, The military and para-military transfer terror increase and so does the popular struggle*

Mon, 05/06/2013 - 21:01
The transfer pressure in area C and the 1948 borders Negev intensify. The colonialist settlers increase their terror backed by the Israeli state forces. The increased popular struggle intensify too and the rightists call for harsher repression are lauder. Not all involved with the grass root popular struggles are happy with the joint struggle with Israelis, preferring to do without the relative immunity from harsher repression we provide, and without our contribution for world public opinion. The ferment in the region already decided that thing will not be the same but only popular struggle and international pressure will channel the changes to the better. ...

Monday: My amazing plan to transform Neighbourhood Partnerships into modern sustainable democratic moots of the people where they can have a proper inclusive say in how this fine city is run has taken a great leap forward. ---- The very nice people from the consultation team have set up an excellent online survey for people to have their say about their Neighbourhood Partnerships - and judging by the smashing comments we have had from all seven people who engaged with this inclusive process, it’s all looking really positive and exciting indeed for democracy in this city. ---- Not long now before every neighbourhood from Stockwood to Henbury will be able to ‘cry freedom’ and decide everything from which potholes they want repaired to what colour they want their park benches painted (well, if there are any park benches left once we start chopping them up ...

Mon, 05/06/2013 - 13:08
Mon, 05/06/2013 - 13:07
A century ago this year Dublin was seized by the great social upheaval of the Lockout. As today organised labour was in the process of being crushed under the combined forces of the bosses and the state. Yet so many things have changed in the intervening hundred years. For a start, more free meals are being served out daily in Dublin 2013 to workers faced with hardship, than at the height of the Lockout. ---- But then of course Dublin is many times larger today than then. But another of the great differences is that hardship today occurs in a society not only unrecognisable from the eyes of 1913 in material terms - the cars, smartphones, iPads, etc - but also in terms of social relationships. Today hardship for workers, locally, nationally and internationally, means being faced not only with unemployment and empty pockets, but also by debt. ...

(de) FAU DIREKTE AKTION #216 – „Wir schließen uns zusammen“ --- Ein Gespräch über Syndikalismus und Peronismus in Argentinien

Mon, 05/06/2013 - 13:06

Lemon, owner of a private security box is forced, if he wants to save his marriage, the protection of the first Gay Pride in Belgrade, threatened by the Nazis. For this former Serbian soldier of the Kosovo war a little redneck and very homophobic, this situation is unbearable. Quickly abandoned by its employees, share with fellow organizer of the march make a journey through the former Yugoslavia to find veterans: one Bosniak, one Croat, one Kosovar, all as homophobic as he but are willing to help in memory of their friendship combat (sometimes born of strange situations). ---- This could have a serious film dealing with the depressingly virulent homophobia prevailing in Eastern Europe. The director takes the challenge of handling the most grotesque clichés and the most hackneyed. ...

May Day Celebrated Worldwide But Not in America, in Commemoration of Struggles of the American Workers ---- Al-Jazeerah Editor's Note: ---- American workers set May 1st, 1886 for a general strike to demand an eight-hour work day. The developments after that day led to killings and repressive measures against them. The Second International socialist movement adopted May 1st, 1890 as the International Labor Day to be celebrated worldwide. ---- The US pro-business federal government decided another day (the first Monday of September), in 1894, following another event in which American workers were killed (Pullman strike of railroad workers). The main objective was to distract American workers from the original event which led to the May 1st worldwide Labor Day celebrations (See references below). ...
