Global Research News Hour: 2013: A REVIEW OF THE MOST CENSORED STORIES OF THE YEAR, Segment 1

Fri, 01/03/2014 - 12:34
In a year characterized by economic dislocation, ecological catastrophe, western military interventions and the spectre of another middle east war, what comprised the major news stories of 2013? This week, we examine the most ignored stories related to Indigenous struggle with John Schertow of Intercontinental Cry Magazine. We then talk to Andy Lee Roth of Project Censored about that organization's latest compilation of the most censored Stories of 2013. Finally, Professor Michel Chossudovsky of the Centre for Research on Globalization assesses what he believes to be the most significant developments of the past year. Out of the Woods: Out of the Woods - Show #195 - 1-2-14, Segment 1

Fri, 01/03/2014 - 05:50
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length, but I try to keep them approximately 30 minutes in most cases. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

The Chill Room: White Light, Segment 1

Fri, 01/03/2014 - 04:50
Last Chill Room of the year is the lightning flash and thunder roar of White Light/White Heat, the Velvet Underground's most extreme statement that hasn't dated a second and burns fresher than ever. A deep appreciation.

Thu, 01/02/2014 - 23:34
Derrick Jensen is an American author and environmental activist (and critic of mainstream environmentalism). Jensen has published several books questioning and critiquing modern civilization and its values, including The Culture of Make Believe and Endgame. He has also taught creative writing at Pelican Bay State Prison and Eastern Washington University. Latin Waves host Sylvia Richardson speaks with author Derrick Jensen on the'naturality' of hierarchy and our culture of violation. Exploring alternative ways of being. Jensen turns the corrosive narrative of hierarchy (survival of the fittest) on its head and offers a new path of coexistence. ** Plus a short talk at the end by Noam Chomsky titled "Necessary Illusions"
